Alumni, Family and Friends
Event Details: Wednesday, Apr. 11, 2018 | 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. | The Greater Boston Food Bank (70 South Bay Avenue, Boston, MA 02118)
Learn More: The Greater Boston Food Bank will train all volunteers at the beginning of their shift, and educate participants on what they do, and who they serve. Volunteers then work together as a team on an assembly line to complete their project in the warehouse, inspecting, sorting, and packing food and grocery products. Some volunteers load boxes onto conveyor belts, some inspect or sort products, and others check and label boxes. While a few of these tasks require the ability to lift a 30-pound box, most tasks require only that a volunteer stand, and inspect products for a few hours.
All volunteers MUST wear closed-toed shoes. You should wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty, as products can be dusty at times. Avoid wearing loose hanging items (such as longer necklaces), and keep long hair pulled back for your safety, as much of the work is done around machinery. To participate, you must be 16 years of age or older, and anyone under 18 requires an adult chaperone. We strongly encourage using public transportation, ride-share services, and carpooling.
