What Went Down: One April 22, 2017, a group of SNHU community members helped sort clothing and house wares for local veterans. This project was sponsored by the Student Veterans Association (SVA). Upon arrival, the head administrator of the Liberty House gave the group a tour and talked about the organization's history. As a group, 15 bags of clothing were sorted by type and size, and then hung in their appropriate area. Two SVA members even assisted with some carpentry work, hanging wire shelving, and building a wooden shelf in the stairway. At lunchtime, they cooked over 50 pancakes and socialized with the residents, who were very appreciative of the volunteers' time and efforts. "It was great to be able to give back to our Veterans that have given so much for all of us, " said site leader Edward Piscopo, President of the SVA.
For more than a decade, Liberty House has been providing a safe, supportive, substance-free housing community for American veterans transitioning out of homelessness. Every veteran that walks through their doors is treated with the utmost respect, regardless of their combat status, or length of service. Each veteran is provided with a unique transition plan tailored to their needs. With the guidance and support of brother and sister veterans and a commitment to giving back through food pantry and clothing programs, Liberty House is more than just a community; it’s a family.
