What Went Down: On April 22, 2017, volunteers participated in an Earth Day Celebration focused on giving back and keeping our beaches clean. The group joined forces with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii and One Ocean Conservation Hawaii. Centered at Waimanalo Beach Park, they cleaned from Sherwoods to Makapu'u with spots spread out in between, inclusing an underwater element at Makai Research Pier too.
Site leader Peter Spolarich said that a total of 903 people removed 8,520 pounds of debris from the beach. Peter even was able to see his first ever monk seal! Now that's a great day!
