Meet Laura

Laura-Sanchez_Class-of-2024

Name: Laura Sanchez

Class of: 2024

Program: Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice w/ a conc. in Cybercrime

"Without donors like yourselves, it would not be possible for students like me to get a higher education. THANK YOU SO MUCH!"

What do you like most about SNHU?

I truly love SNHU for the amazing instructors and administration. Each person I've come in contact with has been extremely helpful and is full of knowledge. I love my classes and how easy it is to get into contact with my professors, when needed, and how fast they are at contacting me back. Everything at SNHU is amazing!

How do the scholarships and financial aid you receive make it possible for you to attend SNHU? Specifically, how have scholarships made a difference?

The scholarships and financial aid I receive makes it possible for me to further my education and pursue a career that I've been wanting for years. With the way the economy is, working full-time doesn't cut it anymore. I work full-time and go to school full-time, so every little bit of help counts and I'm truly grateful for that.

What would you say to those who donate to support student scholarships?

I would like to say a big 'thank you' for donating to support the students. Scholarships help eliminate the burden of having to pay out of pocket or take more loans out to cover the cost of classes. Without donors like yourselves, it would not be possible for students like me to get a higher education. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Why did you choose Southern New Hampshire University?

I chose Southern New Hampshire University because it's an amazing school that allows everyone to be themselves and provides an amazing way of getting a higher education. Everything and everyone who is associated with SNHU is and has been amazing, and I love the fact that I'm part of this university.

What was your hope in receiving a college education? How has your experience been different than what you’d imagined?

My hope in receiving a college education was to pursue a better career that I've always been interested in. I had many doubts and was extremely anxious when I was applying to SNHU, but once I was accepted and started my classes I found it to be accessible and easy to fit with the schedule I was working. I also really enjoy the fact that my professors make themselves available to assist us students and truly care about us getting everything we can out of the classes we take.

What inspired you to choose your area of study? What is your dream job?

I've been interested in law enforcement since I was little. Working many security jobs and landing a job with the sheriff's department allowed me to really understand and get the feel of what it's like working in law enforcement. When it came to choosing my degree, it was a no brainer for me that I wanted to study criminal justice. Through that I found the concentration of cybercrime to be what I was truly interested in. My dream job would be to work for an agency such as the FBI, Homeland Security, National Center for Exploited and Missing Children and be their cyber analyst. I want to be able to help in tracking/shutting down human traffickers, along with saving the victims.

Who at SNHU (professor, coach, advisor, etc.) has been the biggest influence on your college experience? What lessons did that person teach you?

There have been many professors at SNHU that had an influence on me, but I'd have to say Dr. Michael "Doc" Frost and Professor Bruno Pavlicek, PhD are the ones that really helped in influencing my view on my future career path. Both have also taken the time to talk with me and provide advice in how to get where I want to be in the future.

In what ways have you been involved at SNHU (campus organizations, job, sports, etc.)?

I recently joined the Criminal Justice club and I'm looking forward to attending their virtual zoom meetings. I'm also looking into joining the Generation Equality student organization, which advocates, builds and supports a culture of equality for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

What do you find most challenging? How do you deal with this?

I find the most challenging thing as a student is time management. As a student who is working full-time and going to school full-time, it can be hard to get my assignments done in a timely manner while also maintaining a little bit of a social life too. I now have a set schedule that has my assignments broken down and prioritized in order for me to have a weekend free or the weekend to work on projects, if needed.

What are you proudest of?

I'm proudest of being nominated and accepted into the National Society of Leadership and Success. I'm also proud of being a chosen recipient of a scholarship that I applied for.

In what ways do you want/hope to stay involved as an SNHU graduate?

I'm hoping to stay involved by going on to attend graduate school. I'm also looking forward to attending alumni events and even possibly donate to the university, when I'm able to.
