Program: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
I wanted to go to an innovative and progressive school to study technology and had high expectations. When I was coming from abroad to join SNHU, I selected computer science as my degree program because I wanted to acquire technical skills to kickstart a career as data analyst. SNHU was a campus where I could feel at home, and a place where I could be active in my community while also being a student.
It's been an amazing journey of growth for me at SNHU. So far, I'm most proud of my leadership experiences that build connection and community across cultures. As the vice president of the South Asian Student Association (SASA), I like organizing cultural events which share our traditions and food with the rest of the campus. In addition, I am proud of my role as a student assistant in the International Admissions Office, helping to support incoming international students and to make the transition and adjustment to New Hampshire as easy as possible. Taking part as a Chandler Center trip coordinator for a service-learning trip to Philadelphia gave me the opportunity to prepare, supervise, and provide guidance for a group of 13 peers, while also being responsible for student compliance and safety documentation ensuring a successful program. Having to balance these with technical work has been really rewarding.
So far, it has been an amazing experience to receive scholarship aid, specifically William S. Green Scholarship, during my college years. As an international student, tuition and living expenses are always a consideration. This scholarship helps lessen the financial responsibility for my family and allows me to put more of my time and effort into my senior-level computer science coursework and being a leader on campus.
With fewer financial worries, I can focus on completing my degree by May 2027 and preparing for my future career. This support is a great encouragement to keep striving for excellence and continue contributing to the SNHU community that has helped me so much.
Of course, my most significant experience with SNHU has been with The Chandler Center as a service-learning trip coordinator. When leading a group of 13 students in an off-campus program, it was important to be very accountable and organized. I dealt with the student aspects of the trip, including ensuring that students signed the necessary liability waivers and emergency contact forms, obtained allergy information, and organized pre trip preparation meetings. This position challenged me to go outside of my comfort zone and learn how to effectively integrate peer mentoring into administrative organization. Overall, it taught me the importance of fostering the support of others and keeping them safe and ready, which will be a valuable attribute to have in my future career.
