SNHU Relay for Life - Manchester, NH
What Went Down: Originally scheduled March 31, one last spring snowstorm pushed this event back a few weeks, but that didn't bring any of the SNHU Relayers down! Relay for Life events happen in more than 5,200 communities and 27 countries, bringing people together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and help the American Cancer Society raise money to make a global impact on cancer.
Alumnus Luis Cabrera '16 came all the way from New Jersey to Manchester just for Relay. He said the best part was, "experiencing the fruits of the team's labor on the night of the Relay for Life. It was an event that students, alumni, faculty, friends, and families came together from all over the country to help fight the war against cancer. We stood up in memory of those we lost, in solidarity with those that are currently fighting, and in celebration with those that have survived the fight. My inspiration to participate in Global Days of Service comes from the memories of those family members and friends that have succumbed to cancer. It also comes from my current battle with this dreaded disease." Luis - you have the entire SNHU community fighting with you!
SNHU had two official Global Days of Service teams, a student team led by Tiffany Fifer '00 '02MBA and an alumni team led by Ben Harris '16. Individuals could walk in-person or from their hometown. The activity-filled event resulted in nearly $23,000 raised! The funds raised truly make a difference in the fight against cancer; just ask one of the nearly 14 million cancer survivors who will celebrate another birthday this year!

Last year, nearly 200 members of the SNHU community - students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of SNHU - came together for this event. President Paul LeBlanc had the honor of shaving student Rachael Straehle's head after the event raised more than $21,000 - she pledged she would chop off her locks in a show of solidarity if the team surpassed its fundraising goal!
