Volunteering Beyond Global Days of Service

Education Session

Wednesday, May 25, 2022

Connect with SNHU community members who have made volunteering an important part of their lives, even beyond SNHU’s Global Days of Service. Learn about the organizations they work with, their experiences volunteering, and how you can get involved. Three organizations they discuss are The Society of Public Health Education, Autism Speaks and the Crisis Text Line.

Headshot of personSydney Lovell is originally from the small island town of Amelia Island, Florida and now resides in Augusta, Georgia with her four cats. She is pursuing a bachelor's degree in psychology from SNHU. Upon completion, she has hopes of advancing her career in the mental health field. Her journey with Crisis Text Line started in September of 2018, and after almost four years, she has steadily worked her way through the ranks to become an established and experienced crisis counselor. Her accolades include a diploma in mental health and a certificate in mental health first aid.

“One of the major highlights of what I do is being able to be there for individuals I would have never crossed paths with otherwise. People from all over the United States. It feels like such a privilege to be able to be there for such a diverse group of people.” - Sydney Lovell on her work with the Crisis Text Line.

Headshot of person smilingCarol Tatom is an SNHU online student from McKinney, Texas. Carol will finish her Bachelor of Arts in Human Services with a concentration in Child and Family Services and a minor in Sociology in April of 2023. Carol has been involved with Autism Speaks since 2018 and the Texas Society for Public Health Education since 2021. She is passionate about helping special needs families because her youngest daughter has autism. Carol understands on a personal level the unique set of challenges that special needs families face each day, the gaps in public health that often unknowingly excludes them and the negative impacts this can cause on the family and their communities. Carol has been published multiple times in Autism Parenting Magazine and was awarded Top Autism Contributor by Autism Parenting Magazine in 2021. Carol is a member of the NSLS honor society through SNHU and a member of the Tau Epsilon Alpha honor society through the National Organization for Human Services.
