Event details: Saturday, April 26, 2025 | 10 am-2 pm | Woods Hollow Nature Preserve – Northline Road Parking Lot (226 Northline Rd, Ballston Spa, NY 12020)
What went down: Volunteers joined for a meaningful day of community science and conservation at Woods Hollow Nature Preserve. Volunteers explored the trails while learning about native orchids, plant biodiversity, and ecosystem health through hands-on environmental work. In coordination with the Cornell Cooperative Extension, this project supports research on native species and conservation practices while promoting public awareness. No experience was necessary—just a love for the outdoors and a willingness to learn!
Site leader William said, "the Woods Hollow: Native Species & Community Conservation Day went absolutely amazing! We had a fantastic turnout, collected a lot of important data, and the day went even better than I could have hoped for. I captured some great photos and videos during the event, and we also had a professional photographer join us. I’m so, so thankful that SNHU supported me in putting this project together. It’s going to make a real difference for the environment and the community here in New York and I’m really excited to share all the important findings with you soon!”
William is currently analyzing the water and soil samples and observations of plants, animals, and the environment gathered by the volunteers who joined him. William’s Woods Hollow conservation efforts with Cornell will continue.
