Alumni, Family and Friends
Why volunteer? It’s a very simple answer for me. I know volunteering can make a positive impact on someone’s life. I’ve seen it and experienced it first-hand. During my undergraduate years at SNHU (then-New Hampshire College), I was the recipient of such kindness from thoughtful faculty members. Dr. Jennette Ritzenthaler, Dr. Jack Evans and Professor Bill Trueheart — just to highlight a few — all volunteered their time outside their work hours to support me. I also had the help of generous alumni who provided their mentorship and support. Upon graduating I knew I wanted and needed to get more involved in the SNHU community.
Over the past 36 years, I’ve been committed to helping SNHU students in various capacities. I served on the Alumni Board of Directors for many years — working on ways to get alumni more involved and improving the overall student experience. For several years I also gave back by being a part of a student mentoring program, where our focus was preparing students for life after graduation.
Additionally, in 2013 I started collaborating with Professor Micheline Anstey in creating the curriculum and program for what is known today as the SNHU Professional Sales Program. Since the inception of the program, I’ve teamed up with many alumni to help mentor students who wanted to pursue a career in sales. Through the support of faculty and volunteers, this program has helped so many students improve their communication skills, strengthen their value to employers, and secure internships as well as job placements.
As a proud alumnus (and now employee of SNHU) I continue to volunteer my time by mentoring students, working with faculty and students in the sales program, and participating in mock interviews — which are hosted by our Career Development Center to help students prepare and improve their interviewing skills.
My parents always encouraged my brothers and me to give back and help others. My mom always said, “you’ll receive so much more when you’ve helped someone.” Mom was right! Volunteering at SNHU has allowed me to help others, meet a lot of great people, and grow as a person. There are so many ways one can get involved at SNHU — I highly encourage you to explore how you can help make a difference.
I’ll always find ways to volunteer with SNHU because of the impact I know volunteering can have and how it makes me feel. Please join me! Thank you! Ed Ithier ’87 ’93G Director of Development, Office of Institutional Advancement SNHU Volunteer
