I like the welcoming community, small classes, and easy to reach professors.
I pay for my tuition on my own. Receiving a scholarship helps me to take out a smaller loan and keeps me on track to graduate a year early. It also allows me to pursue jobs I'm passionate about instead of having to focus solely on what the pay is.
Your generosity does not go unseen and it's amazing that you're choosing to donate. I appreciate you and your selflessness in making sure all students get the chance to go to college.
I chose Southern New Hampshire University because I felt at home as soon as I toured the campus. I love the small class sizes, which gives me the opportunity to connect with the students in my major and my professors on a level that wouldn't be possible at a big school. I also love the amount of community building SNHU offers for all students, from the welcoming common spaces to the countless clubs offered. Even the attention to detail of every building is amazing—there is truly no dorm on campus that I wouldn't live in.
With my college degree I hope to continue making a difference in the environment. Growing up I always wanted to be a Conservation Officer for NH Fish and Game. However, I'm now on a sustainability path thanks to the career opportunities and resources available at SNHU. I'd like to continue to grow in the program I've been working on so far at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion and I hope to one day work on a national level.
What inspired me to be an environmental science major was growing up in rural New Hampshire (NH). I grew up going to NH events such as Jakes Day and New Hampshire Fish and Game events. I was also involved in the 4-H program and competitive horse back riding. I've always loved the outdoors and had a deep appreciation for those we share the environment with. I loved the idea of being able to run around in the woods all day for work. Although that still sounds fun, as I gained more specific knowledge I realized a sustainability career path is a more realistic option for my current lifestyle. I hope to be working for Live Nation on the national level after college.
Professor Goldsmith has truly been the biggest influence on me—she has done it all. I could sit and talk with her for hours. She is so fascinating and so inspiring. Professor Goldsmith has worked so hard and done so much with her life, she pushes me to achieve more than I ever thought I could. Every time I think "that's too hard, I can't do it," I look at Dr. Goldsmith and I think that if she can overcome every curve ball that has come her way, then so can I.
At SNHU I'm involved in Theta Phi Alpha—a sorority on campus that focuses on hunger and homelessness. I've held positions in the sorority such as Philanthropy chair, where I am in charge of planning all events and finding contacts as well as keeping track of the organizations community service hours. I also was the organizations secretary last year where I was in charge of keeping structure during our meetings and keeping notes of all our meetings. I'm also a part of the Club Soccer team. Additionally, I work for the Office of Sustainability as an eco rep, where I help to plan events for the SNHU community to get them more involved and aware of sustainability and how they can be more sustainable in their day to day lives.
As a student I find juggling work, classes, and relationships very difficult. I deal with this by keeping a planner to organize my weeks to make sure I don't miss anything important and I'm also able to see when I have free time.
I'm proud of the person I'm becoming. I picked up a lot of hobbies in college, such as quilting and crocheting. I've discovered things that make me happy and found the importance of good, fulfilling friendships. I'm proud of my grades and my kindness. I love making people happy and helping others and that is something I'm really proud of.
After I graduate I hope to come back from time to time to share my story to help inspire learners to continue on their path. I also hope to stay involved with my sorority by attending their service days. Community service is something I have grown to love and I want to ensure I keep doing that after graduation.
