Having gone through the SNHU student life-cycle himself, Mike Rizzi '09 '10G '12MBA loves that he is still involved with our community. Mike takes any opportunity he can to better the student experience. He has attended the Internship & Career Fair for the past four years, recruiting SNHU students for internships and jobs. Additionally, he has volunteered his time to help new students and their families get settled during New Student Move-In Day. I’m inspired to volunteer at SNHU because when I was a student, the University provided me with so many opportunities for professional growth and development. I want to ensure current students not only have the support they need, but also gain perspective and insight from someone who was once in their shoes.
I love coming back to campus and connecting with students, learning about them, and providing them the help and support they need to grow. It’s humbling to work with a student during Resume Critique Night/Mock Interviews, provide feedback, answer questions, and then see them more excited (and less nervous) than when they walked in. Even better yet, when I’m able to reconnect with them months down the road and see a tremendous shift in their confidence and poise.
Through my efforts volunteering on campus, I have seen students continue to chase their dreams — such as applying for an internship or job they were interested in and then successfully landing the position. Seeing a student work to better themselves and absorb all the feedback and advice that is provided to them is so fulfilling. From a career perspective, the job market is extremely competitive and I believe that all the exposure SNHU students are provided (SNHU 303, guest speakers, alumni/employers on campus, etc.) truly sets them apart from others and it’s something I’m extremely proud to be a part of.
I wouldn’t say anything totally unexpected, but after connecting with several students on campus, I was glad to be able to extend offers for full-time careers or internship opportunities to those that qualified.
Absolutely! I love coming back to campus to continue to connect with my own mentors as well as to create and develop new relationships with students. I really enjoy helping set them up for success in their professional lives, as my mentors did for me. Not to mention, seeing the growth of the campus has been exciting as well.
Of course! I am a huge supporter of SNHU and these opportunities for student development. I would encourage all alumni to get involved and volunteer to support the current students — it’s such a humbling and rewarding experience.
