Being a positive force in someone’s life is rewarding. Volunteering at SNHU makes me feel as if I am making a difference and it makes me happy. Sometimes those that I have helped tell me by either posting on social media i.e. SNHUconnect, Twitter, and in the way their smile transcends through a phone call. That experience is more than inspiring.
The diversity at SNHU comes from people of all nations, race, color, sexual orientation, and creed. I enjoy working with so many unique people and of course making a difference in their lives. I also enjoy the feeling of knowing that my small contribution is making an impact in other people’s lives.
I have seen many, including myself, achieve up to and beyond our potential. Study groups have been formed, personal and business networks have been established, and clubs have been organized. I have also seen people smile, cry, and overcome obstacles. Personally, I have connected with people that I would otherwise not have had the opportunity to and as a consequence have forged a few strong lifelong friendships.
Yes, absolutely!! I began to volunteer in order to help others. The interactions with students, teachers, and alumni include being a cheerleader, motivator, and inspirer. However, the person I helped the most was myself. I grew as a person, enhanced some of the skills that I had already possessed, and learned new skills too. The activities I found myself being a part of helped me relax and get away from my daily routines while helping others.
Of course I will continue to volunteer at SNHU!! It feels good being able to help others, to give back, and to pay what I have received forward!!! Volunteering allows me to make good use of my spare time, and to continue connecting with individuals that I know and those that I would not otherwise encounter. The bottom line is that volunteering feels good because it is a win/win situation for everyone involved.
