SNHU has always been there for me, as a student trying to complete my BA and MA degrees as well as an alumna, when I needed help refining my resume and interviewing skills to further my career. Knowing firsthand what SNHU has contributed to my life, I want to help ensure others continue to have the opportunities SNHU has afforded me.
One of the things I love most about volunteering at SNHU is the opportunity to meet other Penmen. I've led several Global Days of Service projects in my area and have made new friends in the process. I was able to connect with other students and alumni I didn’t even know lived close by! Projects like these help build the SNHU community around the world.
One of the most impressive results I have seen from a previous project, Hot Dogs and Hope, was a change in attitude of the volunteers. Hot Dogs and Hope was an effort by myself and group of dedicated friends to help feed the homeless population in the city of Fort Worth, TX. Many of the students and alumni that I invited to help serve had never experienced being on the ground level with the homeless. They were nervous about what the interactions would hold. It was fulfilling to see their eyes opened to the fact that anyone can be part of the homeless population and we should all find it in ourselves to lend a helping hand when folks need it.
Unexpectedly, I've become someone people reach out to when they want to volunteer or need ideas about how to approach a volunteer project.
Absolutely! SNHU gives so much to so many, I want to continue to serve as a branch on their giving tree. The university gives us the flexibility to explore volunteer projects in any area we choose, which helps spread our awareness of community needs.
I will continue to lead Global Days of Service projects to help get other students and alumni involved. Once folks see the endless opportunities to give back, they sometimes start leading their own projects, which gets even more people involved!
Some of my favorite ways to volunteer with SNHU are Global Days of Service and participating in Mock Interviews with current students. I highly recommend you checking these events out for yourself!
