Robin Kazes ‘97 has been actively involved as a volunteer at SNHU, giving back to the SNHU community and serving on the Alumni Board of Directors since 1999. Robin is a fixture at Homecoming - you can usually find her at the Alumni Association table at the Street Fair.
It started off as wanting to give back to an institution that provided me so much. Over time, it turned into something broader; it now has more to do with pride in my school and less with what it had afforded me.
I love the camaraderie among all of the volunteers. There’s a sense of pride in knowing that many current students, as well as alumni are helped by what we do by staying in touch and connected with the University.
Definitely! If someone can commit to even one event, there’s a direct correlation between being a part of something worthwhile and a feeling of satisfaction. Seeing the campus and all its facets…from student to alumni…seeing the behind the scenes widens out your perspective on how things are run. The lesson is that education continues after graduation and becoming a volunteer in whatever capacity a person can, the lessons are greater than any efforts made.
I would say that friendships have formed where they weren’t necessarily sought out. Working with other like-minded individuals who have a passion for SNHU is really powerful.
As long as I’m allowed, I will continue. It doesn’t require a huge investment in time on my part, but the enjoyment I get out of my volunteer activity is well worth it.
