SNHU Global Days of Service

Project Leader Responsibilities

The work coordinated by project leaders – from liaising with charitable organizations to communicating with other volunteers – is vital to this program's success. We've created a checklist below so you understand the responsibilities that come with leading an SNHU GDS project. If you have any questions at all, please contact us directly at alumni@snhu.edu or 603.645.9799.

Pre-Event: Site Identification

  • Identify a specific service site in your area. Examples include shelters for the hungry and homeless, conservation projects, women’s centers, and schools.
  • Reach out to the site. Determine with the service site to determine if they can take on volunteers for a day. Typical Global Days of Service sites require 3-5 hour commitments. Collect logistical details:
    • Physical address, day & time of service, and on-site contact information
    • What are the minimum & maximum numbers of volunteers they will accept?
    • What task(s) will volunteers be working on?
    • Are children (under 18) accepted as volunteers?
    • Is there parking and/or public transportation nearby?
    • If the site is outside, is the service weather-contingent?
  • Submit site details. When you have collected the relevant details, please fill out the SNHU Global Days of Service Site Leader Form. An SNHU Global Days of Service Committee representative will then follow up with you to finalize any additional details before posting on our website.

Pre-Event Check List

  • Introduce yourself to volunteers. A few days before the project, we will send an email reminding volunteers of their registration and introducing you as the site leader. You should then follow up with an email to the group and provide final details concerning the service site, and include your contact information for day-of communication.
  • Receive Global Days of Service materials from SNHU. We will send you a package with SNHU gear for all registered volunteers, a list of registered volunteers, and any other relevant supplies for your site.

During Event

  • Greet your fellow volunteers. Arrive a few minutes early, meet the on-site staff member from the service site, and greet volunteers as they arrive. Note which SNHU volunteers are present.
  • Take pictures! Please take pictures of your group volunteering and encourage volunteers to Tweet and Facebook about what they’re doing using the hashtag #ServeWithSNHU. And if you email your photos to alumni@snhu.edu or Share Your Story, we'd also love to share your photos on our Facebook and Flickr albums.

Post-Event

  • Let us know how it went! Share your experience on social media using the hashtag #ServeWithSNHU. And remember to email your photos to alumni@snhu.edu or upload through the Share Your Story link, so we can add your story to our Facebook and Flickr albums. And please let us know how many volunteers took part in your site.
