An Evening with Russell Banks
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Low-Residency MFA in Fiction and Nonfiction at Southern New Hampshire University, renowned author Russell Banks is coming to SNHU for a discussion with Virginia Prescott, host of NHPR's Word of Mouth. The discussion is free and open to the public, while an exclusive gathering with Banks before the interview and a private dinner afterward will support scholarships for students in the low-residency MFA program.
Russell Banks is one of America’s most revered living novelists. The author of Affliction, The Sweet Hereafter, Rule of the Bone, Cloudsplitter, and numerous other acclaimed books, his work has been translated into twenty languages, and Affliction and The Sweet Hereafter have been adapted into award-winning films. Twice a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, twice a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner award, he was awarded the rank of Officier des Artes et Lettres by the French Minister of Culture, and has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Virginia Prescott, the host of NHPR’s Word of Mouth, is the recipient of a Loeb Fellowship from Harvard and a Gracie Award. Prior to hosting Word of Mouth, she was director of NPR’s On Point and Here and Now.

*While your entire gift will be dedicated to supporting scholarships for students in the Low-Residency MFA in Fiction and Nonfiction program, under the Internal Revenue Code, the amount of this gift that is tax deductible for federal income tax purposes is limited to the excess of the amount paid over the benefits received. The fair market value of the reception has been set at $30, and the dinner has been set at $50 per person. Thus, the value of your gift for the purposes of charitable tax deduction will be $120 per person for the VIP Package ($200 - $80), and $50 for the Gold Package ($100 - $50).
