The Southern New Hampshire University Center for New Americans, hosted in partnership with YWCA New Hampshire, launched in December 2017 to better serve the needs of the New American community in Manchester, NH. The program’s foundation is a safe space that welcomes anyone who enters, no matter their path to get there. Programmatically, the center offers afterschool programming for New American youth and a pathway for adults to obtain meaningful credentials that lead to fulfilling employment.
As part of this work, SNHU and the Center for New Americans partner with local resettlement agencies to ensure those coming to Manchester have a smooth transition. In August of 2021, the United States ended much of its physical combat occupation of Afghanistan, which has led to an influx of Afghan families looking to resettle in the U.S. for educational and employment purposes. Southern New Hampshire University has been working with local elected officials and national partners to assist in this process for its students and their families.
The Center for New Americans is seeking to raise funds for these families as they navigate this difficult process. These funds will be used to directly meet their immediate needs upon resettlement. The center is fortunate to have many local partners assisting in this work and is grateful for any support from the SNHU community to help these students and their families.
If you’d like to support the resettlement efforts for these Afghan students and their families beyond a financial contribution, please contact centerfornewamericans@snhu.edu.
