What is environmental justice? Is it the same thing as climate change? What are the implications in everyday life? For our session, The Chandler Center brought in a special guest: Mike Weinstein '15 '17G, SNHU professor and expert on issues of the environment. We had a lively conversation with Mike, discussing what exactly environmental justice is and what it means.

Thank you to the Student Government Association for a family-friendly night of virtual ocean trivia powered by the Seacoast Science Center! Questions were related to the Gulf of Maine and World Ocean.
This panel featured SNHU community members supporting environmental justice, both locally and globally. Our panelists taught us about the organizations they work with, how to get involved in our own community, how COVID-19 has impacted their efforts, and much more. Thank you to our panelists!
Panelists
Hamed Majidzadeh joined the science faculty at Southern New Hampshire University in 2019. Previously, he served as a coastal environmental quality program specialist for the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium. Prior to that, he was a post-doctoral research associate at Clemson University, as well as a research assistant at Clemson and Auburn University. He earned his Ph.D. in Biogeochemistry from Auburn University in 2016.
Kaitlin Sampson '13 is a graduate of the SNHU Hospitality Business program. After receiving her bachelor's degree, Kaitlin worked for Marriott International until 2018 when she received a Sustainable Innovation MBA from the University of Vermont. She currently lives in Vermont and works with the Sustainable Food Lab, a non-profit working with food and beverage companies and the farmers from whom they source.
Samantha (Whittier) Staebner '14 is a graduate of the SNHU Hospitality Business program. A senior captain of the Women's Soccer team, she also represented SNHU and the NE10 to the DII Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Samantha worked for Worcester Bravehearts/Creedon and Co. before returning to her true calling in agriculture. For the past several years, Sam has ignited her passion as the fifth generation at Whittier Farms filling roles in sales, marketing, events, animal care, equipment operation, and vegetable production, all while staying true to the family's dedication for sustainability and stewardship. Samantha serves as Vice President for the Agri-Mark/Cabot Creamery Cooperative Young Cooperators Program. As a generational farmer, Samantha is extremely proud to work with her husband, her parents, and her siblings to keep agriculture alive and well in Sutton, MA.
The world is currently faced with many social, economic, and environmental challenges, but celebrating Earth Day will go on ... virtually. Thankfully, there are lots of ways to support the protection of the planet right now from the comfort of our own homes. SNHU alumna Caitlin Jillson '18 '20MBA spoke about home sustainability, tips on reducing your carbon footprint, and informational resources to utilize while on your journey to protect mother nature.
