Alumni, Family and Friends
Event details: Tuesday, April 29, 2025 | 10 am-12 pm | Foss Beach (Rye, NH)
Learn more: We're looking for volunteers to collect trash and record their findings - contributing to a long-term study on marine pollution. In past years, SNHU volunteers have picked up hundreds of pounds of trash with the Blue Ocean Society. How much will we collect this year? Beach cleanups help wildlife and keep the beach safer for humans; the information recorded helps us learn about trends in marine pollution and in turn, identify solutions.
Your project leader will provide a short introduction at the beginning about marine debris and why it’s important that we gather this beach debris data. At the end of the cleanup, we’ll weigh the trash and discuss what was found.
Please bring gloves and reusable bags in which to collect trash. We recommend you dress in layers and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes for safety as the area is rocky. Note that temperatures can often be 10-15 degrees cooler at the beach than they are inland. Volunteers can bring their own snacks and water in reusable containers as needed.
This project is family-friendly; children under 18 must be supervised by an adult. Carpooling is encouraged, free street parking is available next to the seawall. Restrooms are available at nearby Rye Harbor State Park. Bring a picnic lunch and stick around after if the weather permits.
Cleanup is conducted rain or shine. If the weather looks threatening, please call the Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation at 603.431.0260. They will leave a message if the cleanup is postponed.
