Learn more: Maine Wildlife Transport (MWT) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to rescue, stabilize, and transport ill, injured, or orphaned wildlife to a licensed rehabilitation center within the state of Maine. Small knit or crochet nests are needed for baby birds and other rescued wildlife. The nests help to safely and comfortably transport the animals to local rehab centers.
Please use Worsted weight 100% acrylic yarn, in any color; Red Heart Super Saver is a great option, please do not use glitter or fuzzy yarns. Crafters can follow any pattern or technique of their choosing, as long as it's tightly woven. All sizes are needed, but smaller ones preferred. Your project leader has put together a helpful overview. You can also check out these YouTube video resources to complete a bird nest:
Please mail finished pieces to your project leader by April 30, 2025. Volunteers are responsible for any associated mailing costs. Mailing address will be provided in your confirmation email or you can email the project leader directly to arrange local drop off in the Berwick, Maine area.
