Event details: Wednesday, April 2, 2025 | 9 am-12 pm | Palmer Cove Park Community Garden (89 Salem Street, Salem MA 01970)
Learn more: Salem Community Gardens is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization that rents out raised beds and gardening plots in four locations to more than 248 families in Salem, Massachusetts. Volunteers are needed to fill garden beds which will increase the number offered to the community.
Project leader Michaela is also on the Salem Community Gardens board and said, “We have been trying to fill these raised garden beds for 2 years, but just don't have enough volunteer support from our community. Getting them filled means we can offer more garden plots to our community, offer more scholarship plots, and donate more food to the Salem Food Pantry.”
Volunteers must be aged 18 or older. There is on street and parking spaces in front of the garden entrance. Snacks, water and coffee will be provided. Wear comfortable clothing you don’t mind getting dirty, closed-toed shoes are a must. The group will be working grounds covered in wood chips; some spots may be muddy depending on recent rainfall. The garden is right by the ocean and can get windy there. In case of rain, overhead tarps will be provided to offer some shelter from the weather. Some work would still require leaving the tent area so volunteers should prepare to dress for the day’s weather forecast.
