What went down: The Food Bank of the Rockies is the largest hunger-relief organization in the Rocky Mountain region. Since 1978, they have answered the enormous challenge of hunger with the power of community, through programs, and with the support of partnerships and volunteers. They distribute upwards of 178,000 meals every day to those in need. One of their programs is Mobile Pantries. Need isn’t always conveniently located, which is why they deploy 70+ Mobile Pantries throughout Colorado and Wyoming. Each year, the Mobile Pantries provide millions of pounds of food to under-supported areas.
The SNHU community helped to distribute boxes full of refrigerated and frozen products, protein, canned goods, fresh produce, and dairy to more than 200 households! The group arrived ahead of families to break down pallets of products, make boxes, and sort food into those boxes for distribution. It was a well-coordinated drive-by food pick up where vehicles would move through the a line where volunteers, like Melissa and Debbie, would load them up with all the each type of food item.
