Alumni, Family and Friends
Event details: April 17-26, 2025 | times vary | Regional Public Safety Training Center (RPSTC) (5190 Spectrum Blvd. Reno, NV 89512)
Learn more: During the month of April, the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) offers an academy to train individuals to be prepared for disasters and be ready to help their family, neighbors, and community when disaster strikes. The CERT Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
Training is free and consists of eight units of core training, skills testing and graduation. The academy occurs over six days across two weeks – on Thursday evening, Friday evening, and Saturday day. April dates: April 17, 18, 19 and 24, 25, 26. If April does not fit into your schedule, the trainings are offered quarterly.
Anyone interested in completing the training will need to apply online. Once you’ve completed the training, please share your story to report your hours and let us know how it went.
Individuals aged 16+ can participate in training; local CERT group volunteers must be at least 18 years old. To get to the RPSTC, proceed to Parr/Dandini Blvd. and head east towards Sun Valley. At the roundabout, take the exit headed towards the north, the RPSTC is just beyond the SPCA facility, at the top of the hill. Once inside the training center, check the monitor for the room assignment.
