What Happened: Girls at Work, Inc. empowers girls with the tools to overcome adversity and build confidence to face current and future life challenges. On April 10, eight groups of volunteers formed, and eight piles of lumber were turned into picnic tables over the course of three hours on the SNHU Green Space. Through blustering cold winds (thanks NH spring weather!), the tables began to take shape by using the tools provided, and step-by-step instructions offered by Elaine Hamel, Founder and Program Leader of Girls at Work.
Throughout the project, volunteers collaborated with team members, laughed while making mistakes, and at the end, were full of pride as they stood next to their finished projects. Five tables will be brought to the Jewett Street School in Manchester, two will be brought to the Nashua Soup Kitchen, and one will remain on campus in a location that is TBD.
