COVID-19 Update: We are closely monitoring developments regarding the coronavirus. The health, safety, and wellbeing of the SNHU community is of the utmost importance to us. We are not taking registrations for any in-person Global Days of Service projects at this time. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
Event Details: Saturday, April 18, 2020 | 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. | United Way CHEW House (8 Ruth Street, Jacksonville, NC)
Learn More: Childhood hunger in Onslow County is rampant. Kids without adequate food over the weekend often suffer from stomachaches, the inability to focus, chronic absences, and frequent headaches. Long-term food insecurity can also result in behavioral problems, lower physical functions, and depressive disorders, especially in adolescents.
Help us pack bags for the United Way Children Eating Healthy on Weekends (CHEW) program! The CHEW! Program assists children in the Jacksonville community by providing backpacks filled with child-friendly, easy to prepare meals over the weekend. Every week, volunteers from the community pack the backpacks, which are distributed to children on Friday and returned on Monday. Currently, more than 600 backpacks are filled at this hub each week and the numbers will likely increase soon.
Come with lots of enthusiasm and energy. We will work in an assembly line to fill the backpacks together. Please consider bringing a few food items to donate; a full list of food needs can be viewed online: https://uwonslowchew.weebly.com/donations.html
Please arrive at 8:30 a.m. to start right at 9:00 a.m. We recommend bringing a refillable water bottle. Street parking is available nearby.
Volunteers must be 10 years of age or older.
