Remembering John Miles

​It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that John Miles has passed away. John served as VP for Finance and Operations and Chief Financial Officer from 1986-2007, guiding the institution through significant growth and expansion. He worked closely with Chancellor Bill Green and President Dick Gustafson to acquire land to build additional residence halls, academic buildings, and athletics facilities. He also served on the SNHU Board of Trustees from 1999 until his retirement and was named a Trustee Emeritus in 2009.

 

John created an endowed scholarship fund to support campus undergraduate students who possess a serious learning attitude and academic achievement, but who cannot afford tuition after financial aid. Since 2006, the John & Betty Miles Scholarship has been awarded to 26 students, empowering each to pursue their dreams of education.

 

When we opened the Dining Center on campus in January 2010, we named the John C. and Betty Miles Function Room for John and his late wife, Betty, to honor their generosity to the SNHU community, reflecting his commitment to the university and our students. We know that John would find it so gratifying to see how their room is always so full of life.
