August 2022

Welcome from Brittney L. Toth '10

A community can be defined as a group of people living in one place, but it can also be used to describe a larger group sharing something in common. SNHU has developed a large sense of community that expands beyond the campus life and continues, even after you graduate. This same sense of community is one that keeps many alumni, like myself, wanting to give back.

During my time on campus, I was very active within the SNHU community outside of class as a Resident Assistant, participated in several clubs and attended many events. The more I was involved with things on campus, the more the sense of community grew. However, when the time comes and you leave campus or finish your online degree, that sense of community can fade. This was something I wasn’t ready to let go of. Once a Penmen, always a Penmen.

There are so many ways to stay involved as part of the SNHU Alumni Association. The Office of Institutional Advancement’s Alumni Engagement team offers a variety of events (such as Global Days of Service) and webinars that cater to a variety of different interests. My favorite way of staying involved is volunteering my time back to the students and the school.

I personally enjoy seeing all the incoming first-year students on Move-In Day. It gives me a chance to see that growing campus, welcome new members of our SNHU community and to be a smiling face that many of these students need at that moment. But if you can’t make it to campus for Move-In Day, there are other ways to volunteer your time. If you login to the SNHU Alumni and Friends Online Community, you can update your volunteer interests to receive the most current information on opportunities. Whatever you choose, I encourage you to stay involved within the SNHU community and support the students by volunteering your time.

Thank you!

Move-in Day | Friday, August 26 | SNHU Campus (Manchester, NH)
As Brittney mentioned above, first-year students will be moving onto campus soon and we're looking for volunteers to assist in welcoming them and settling in. If you're interested in helping out, please contact Alli Pudvah at a.pudvah@snhu.edu at your earliest convenience for additional details.

Virtual Panel Opportunity
We're looking for a few alumni who identified as first-generation college students to be a part of a panel to share how this identity impacted their academic experiences. We’d love to chat about topics such as success stories, overcoming challenges, surprising things that were learned along the way, etc. We're defining “first-generation college students” as an individual whose parents or guardians didn’t complete a four-year degree program. If you're interested in learning more, please contact Sara Telfer at s.telfer@snhu.edu.

Homecoming 2022 | Save the Date: Oct. 14-16
Can you believe it!? Homecoming weekend is just a few months away! Be sure to stay tuned to the SNHU alumni social media channels for upcoming information on all things HoCo — including possible volunteer opportunities.

Fall 2022 Virtual Mock Interviews — Volunteers Needed!
Join the Career & Professional Development Center for virtual mock interview sessions this fall! These interviews allow campus-based students to connect with alumni and/or employer partners to practice interviewing skills. We’re asking volunteers for a minimum two-hour time commitment for this event, but you’re welcome to sign up for multiple sessions:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 2 | 9 am–5 pm ET
  • Tuesday, Nov. 8 | 9 am–5 pm ET
  • Thursday, Nov. 10 | 9 am–5 pm ET

Registration to volunteer will open soon! If you have questions in the meantime, please contact Becca Lazinsk at r.lazinsk@snhu.edu.
