There are many great things about SNHU, especially the supportive staff and professors. In every class I've attended at SNHU, I've felt nothing but complete support. The professors are always willing to take that extra step to help out a student. Another great thing about SNHU is its diversity. SNHU is diverse in so many ways within its community. There are many clubs, sports, and activities for students to chose from and join — which is great because everyone can find something that meets their interests and hobbies.
Scholarships have made a huge impact on my ability to attend SNHU. None of my older siblings attended college mainly due to financial barriers. In high school, this made me feel that attending college was going to be very difficult — if not impossible. Although this was true, it did not stop me from reaching for my academic goals. I've applied to hundreds of scholarships over the years and thankfully have received some. Without these scholarships, the fear of not being able to attend college would still be in the back of my mind.
To those who donate to support student scholarships, thank you! Everyone has different situations and I don't believe financial barriers should hold one back from pursuing their goals and furthering their education. Scholarships create opportunities and opportunities create success! Thank you for supporting students' successes!
I was a COVID high school graduate and missed out on many opportunities such as prom and graduation. Due to this, I felt I hadn’t really completed my high school journey and chose to stay close to home with many of my high school friends. This was the best decision I’ve ever made. SNHU is very supportive, and the professors are always willing to help. SNHU also has a very diverse selection of clubs, sports and activities that cater to students' different interests.
My main hope in receiving a college education was to expand my knowledge. My experience at SNHU was different than what I imagined because in high school we were told that college was very "on your own". I believe we're on our own and very independent ... but we have the support of the SNHU staff and professors. It feels like it's impossible to fail with the guidance and help they provide, which is the opposite of what I'd imagined.
I chose to be a biology major because I love science. Learning science is endless because it changes every day, which interests me the most. My dream job is to be a physician assistant with a specialty in dermatology.
Dr. Duryea has been the biggest influence on my SNHU career. She taught me that learning science can be fun! Science can be a handful when it comes to memorizing definitions and topics, but Dr. Duryea teaches in a way that makes memorization easy. She also taught me that it's okay to not memorize everything instantly and that it takes time.
Due to my busy school/work schedule and my commuter lifestyle, I've been unable to participate in SNHU campus life. In the fall (2022), I'll be living on campus and will be involving myself in student clubs and organizations because it's never too late!
The thing I find most challenging as a student is balancing school, work, clubs and just life in general. It's important to keep a balanced lifestyle in order to stay sane. I think it's so important to go out with your friends every once in a while or to just do something for yourself. When you're stuck completely in that school mindset it can almost become too much ... so taking a step back and enjoying life can bring great balance.
I'm proud of attending college in general, as it was a huge hurdle in my life. Since I've gotten the opportunity to attend SNHU I've been able to maintain a 4.0 GPA, which is something I'm also very proud of.
I hope to become a SNHU alumni and donate funds to these amazing scholarships as they have opened so many doors for me. I wish to help open doors for people who don't have it so easy in life, but wish to pursue their academic goals.
