I enjoy the family-like atmosphere and community that SNHU offers the most. There are several spaces on campus that I can feel comfortable and be myself in. I am able to network with so many knowledgeable and supportive people that allow me to express myself in my own way.
I am a commuter student as it is financially challenging to be a resident student. As a student-athlete, I drive back and forth to campus twice a day and several weekends. The scholarships and financial aid that I receive allow me to fulfill the educational opportunities that I need. The scholarships I have received mean the most to me, and will hopefully one day make it possible for me to be a resident student for a semester.
Those who donate to support student scholarships have the kindest of hearts. Even if you are an SNHU alum or someone from the community, no one is obligated to donate anything. Knowing that someone understands the financial burden college can have on students and that they are willing to help (and may not even know us personally) truly means a lot. Thank you to all who donate to scholarships, they are more than appreciated and I am incredibly grateful.
I chose Southern New Hampshire University for the family and community oriented feel. The small class sizes and the endless opportunities have allowed me to connect with so many amazing people. My experiences have allowed me to be myself and learn more about me as a person. I cannot picture myself studying anywhere else or being part of any other major program.
I used to hope to receive a degree. Entering college, I did not have many expectations for myself in terms of graduation. Honestly, I hoped to graduate without being in a ton of debt. Now, I have created goals for myself beyond the basic points of education. I have had opportunities that I previously did not know existed. I did not know I would flourish as much as I am in the environment and become more of the person that I want to be.
I chose to study entrepreneurship as I did not want to be confined to one aspect of business. I am curious and interested in everything from finance to marketing, and accounting to sales. I wanted to be able to learn it all! My dream job is to be the CEO or president of a company that I create. There are so many ways I can be myself in this area of study and not be overwhelmed with business expectations. I have more freedom to learn at my own pace and the way that I will best understand.
My professor, major coach, and leader, Sophia Koustas, has been the biggest influence on my journey so far. She has put her heart into my program and my peers. She has taught me that my journey in business does not have to be pre-written. I can create my own direction and steer myself in a new path that not many people go down. I am grateful for her guidance and support.
I am on the cheerleading team and a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. For athletics, I work as a lead marketing assistant. I have the best opportunities to increase student involvement and bring other students to games. Also, I work as an Orientation/Opening Weekend leader, as well as an Entrepreneurship program ambassador. Lastly, I am part of the university's Honors Program.
Sometimes I find it difficult to stay motivated to complete my class assignments. I deal with this by reminding myself that I am working towards my future career and I am bettering myself by learning new things. It is easy to procrastinate and get distracted while working from home, so I try to do my work on campus and in an environment that will keep me focused.
I am proudest of my commitment to showing up to every single class. In my whole college experience, I have never missed a single class session. I pride myself in showing up as I know that is the first step to success.
I hope someday that I can become a scholarship donor and provide a student like myself with financial support. I know how challenging it can be to afford school and I know how important it is to receive an education. I want to be able to change someone's experience by helping them towards their degree.
