The diverse community in the online program. We're all starting from different places in life, but share the similar goal of improving our future.
I'm a single parent. I also support an aging parent and work full-time to do so. Knowing that even a small portion of this endeavor's financial burden is being lifted allows me to focus better on my education.
Thank you. Your support is so much more than a check. Your generosity represents a future of my choosing rather than one of necessity. That is truly life-changing.
I explored all of my online options before choosing SNHU. I was impressed with the ease of registration and the amount of information about the program available online. Everyone I spoke to during the process was helpful and patient with my questions, and there were many, as I'm returning to school after 20 years.
I hope to expand my earning potential, increase my career growth options, and fulfill the less lofty goal of graduating before my firstborn.
I work in payroll; believe it or not, it's where I want to stay. Obtaining an accounting degree to support my payroll knowledge will allow me to further my career and expand my opportunities. Ultimately I would like to manage a payroll program and support young women in the field.
My circle of reference is limited since this is my first semester. However, my academic advisor (Katelynn Fink) did an amazing job with my on boarding. She understood my desire to complete my degree as quickly as possible. Offered additional resources to assist me in doing so and recommended I make sure I chose classes that will support my CPA (Certified Public Accountant) aspirations. It felt as tailored as if I was sitting in her office.
Honestly, getting used to the technology took a minute. The last time I was in school, iPads didn't exist and text books were only available in hard copy. However, after just six short weeks into my first semester, I felt like I've gotten the hang of things.
I'm proudest of what I accomplished academically and personally throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. During this tough time I was able to keep my grades up as well as focus on myself. During the course of the lock down, I managed to lose 85 pounds. Losing weight has always been a struggle for me, especially as a kid. Being able to set my mind to it and lose the weight really changed how I looked at myself and I gained a lot of confidence and learned my self-worth as a result.
Mentoring is something I've done throughout my career and would like to continue as a graduate. I especially would like to have an opportunity to mentor returning students who also may be facing the additional challenge of a disability.
