SNHU is open-minded and accepted me into an art program without any kind of portfolio. Due to my small high school, I was never taught how to make one, and SNHU accepted me with open arms and I am blossoming in my field like never before.
When I received my scholarship I started crying due to the financial relief and happiness I was feeling. This scholarship guaranteed me comfort and stability, coming up just $100 short of my goal, and I am forever grateful for the generosity of the Kimon and Anne Zachos Scholarship.
You must know that you make a difference to students, but I don't think you know just how much you do. I was facing instability for the upcoming school year, but this scholarship saved me when no one or nothing else could. You mean the difference between staying at this institution to some, and it's a beautiful feeling when you look at the reward and are able to sigh with relief. You're some of the greatest superheroes on this planet, and you deserve recognition for all that you do. You save the minds of students like me, and I am eternally grateful.
SNHU gave me a chance in Graphic Design without a portfolio. When I stepped on campus, I knew that it was the place I wanted to earn my degree from. I forgot every other college I visited and all I could think about was studying in the library, sitting out on the green space, and having dinner with friends.
I has hoping to find what it was that I love doing, and I did! After taking classes for my degree, I finally figured out where I belong in the working world.
I love art, but without a portfolio, I wasn't going to get very far. SNHU offered portfolio-less students with the opportunity to enroll in programs like Graphic Design and Media Arts without one, and that's exactly what I did. Graphic Design was never what I thought of doing growing up, but now, it's all I dream of doing.
One of my professors, Josh Edgerly, really brought me out of my shell and encouraged me to do more. He taught classes that I excelled in tremendously, and his area of work is what I have found to be my new dream job. When school isn't in session, he sends me projects to do, and even in the classroom, he tries to teach real-life experiences and gives his enthusiasm to our learning.
I was a Peer Advising Leader (PAL) for just over a year. This was a position that helped freshmen and transfer students with their transition to SNHU and college in general. I emailed a case load of about 100 students every week to remind them about important events, as well as partook in events (First Days, Registration events, etc.). I joined the PAL Leadership Team for the second half of my time there as their Marketing Coordinator, making marketing and promotional material for the PAL program, as well as organizing PAL events.
I also just recently joined the E-Board of the Media and Design Club as their Secretary. There will be more to come on this subject, as I have just joined and haven't done too much. Before I was Secretary, though, I attended the club for a year as a general member.
Lastly, I have a work-study job that also works as my full-time job over summers. I work for SNHU on their Web Operations Team as a Student Web Assistant. I make changes and fixes to the www.snhu.edu website, as well as test it regularly. Web Operations is a part of the Marketing team, and I hope to move over to the Creative team in the future.
I have always been a procrastinator, and time management is one of the hardest things for me in college.
So far, my major work has been the best work I've ever done. In one class, we had to redesign a menu for an existing restaurant. The restaurant I made a menu re-design for actually saw my work and wanted to chat about it.
I would love to offer help to young, aspiring graphic design students. Whether that means they can contact me with questions or I become adjunct faculty, I'm not sure. But, I want to provide the help I received through my spectacular professors to those who were just like me.Back to Meet Our Students
