Meet Kayla

Kayla Sanborn, Class of 2021Name: Kayla Sanborn

Class of: 2021

Program: Bachelors of Arts in Pyschology with a concentration in Forensic Pyschology

"SNHU has made my experience feel very personal because they genuinely care about getting to know me."

Why did you choose Southern New Hampshire University?

I chose Southern New Hampshire University because it has so much to offer. Most colleges I had toured previous to SNHU made me feel like I was nothing but a number. The class sizes were extremely big and there was no room for one-on-one with a professor if needed. At SNHU, everyone made me feel welcome and gave me multiple ways to help me if needed. SNHU genuinely cares about their students and I love being at a school that loves you back!

What was your hope in receiving a college education? How has your experience been different than what you’d imagined?

What I hope in receiving a college education is not only a great job, but experience. I want all the experiences I can get from SNHU. My experience was different than expected because I did not realize how welcoming SNHU was and how I had so many people willing to help me, all I had to do was ask!

Many alumni and students talk about the friendly and supportive community at SNHU. Does this resonate with you? In what ways has your SNHU experience felt “personal”?

I have heard so much about how SNHU is so friendly and welcome, that is part of the reason I came to SNHU. SNHU has made my experience feel very personal because they genuinely care about getting to know me. They care about my grades, how I like/dislike a class, how my living situation is on and off campus, and so much more. SNHU is a second home to me.

What inspired you to choose your area of study?

I’ve always loved psychology, and forensics has always interested me, so it was perfect fit for me! A big part of it is also how I love to help people. If I can make at least one person laugh or smile a day, I’d be happy!

What is your dream job?

I never really had a steady dream job, it always changed throughout my childhood. I just want to be able to help others to the best of my ability.

In what ways have you been involved at SNHU (campus organizations, job, sports, etc.)?

I have played intramural volleyball, I work at the Last Chapter Pub, and I plan on joining the SNHU Psychology Club.

What do you find most challenging? How do you deal with this?

What I found most challenging was the time management. I found it extremely difficult to manage friends, homework, studying, and other activities. I talked to my advisor about managing my time better and we worked together to plan a schedule that worked for me.

What are you proudest of?

I am most proud of the person I am becoming and I look forward to what I will become.

What advice would you give to an incoming student?

Get involved! It was honestly the greatest decision I have ever made. It will help you make friends and make the semesters fly by.

What are your plans following graduation?

I plan on furthering my education and getting my master's while I work.

In what ways do you think you will stay involved as an alumnus/a?

I would love to come to events, possibly be a speaker, and I hope when I have kids they will want to go to SNHU!
