Meet Kayla

Headshot of Kayla Nimmo, Class of 2027

Name: Kayla Nimmo

Class of: 2027

Program: Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts

"Because of your generosity, I will be able to build myself a brighter future, and I hope that someday I will be able to return the favor."

What made you choose Southern New Hampshire University, and what do you value most about your experience here?

I selected Southern New Hampshire University for its online convenience and its solid reputation for helping non-traditional and working students succeed. The capability of working on my assignments around my own schedule has certainly made juggling school with life a lot easier. What I enjoy most about being here are the academic resources the school has provided. I specifically enjoy the clear directions I receive from the instructors, and the services for help with writing are outstanding. It is convenient for me to access the site which allows me to be able to stay organized.

How do the scholarships and financial aid you receive make it possible for you to attend SNHU? How have they made a difference for you?

The scholarships and aid I receive are vital to my ability to attend Southern New Hampshire University as it alleviates the cost of tuition and expenses involved with attending the university. Without this assistance, I could not possibly afford to continue higher education while dealing with my current responsibilities, and this help has allowed me to remain enrolled as a full-time student with the ability to be more concerned about my schoolwork rather than the funds involved. It has proven extremely useful.

What message would you like to share with the alumni and friends whose generosity made your scholarship possible?

To all of our alumni and friends whose financial support allowed me to receive this scholarship, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Because of you, I can come to this university, farther along in my dreams than I would have otherwise been able to, and dedicate myself to my education in ways that I never thought I would. Because of your generosity, I will be able to build myself a brighter future, and I hope that someday I will be able to return the favor.

Tell us about your journey to and through SNHU. What inspired you to pursue your degree, and what are you most proud of so far?

I began attending Southern New Hampshire University because I wanted to create a better future for myself and my family. I knew that earning my degree would open doors to new opportunities and allow me to build a more stable life. As a single mother of three and a full-time employee, returning to school was not an easy decision. It required a great deal of courage, sacrifice, and determination to pursue my education while continuing to care for my children and meet my daily responsibilities.

Throughout my time at SNHU, I have learned that success is built on discipline, perseverance, and resilience. There have been many long days and exhausting nights, but I have continued pushing forward because of the example I want to set for my children. The flexibility of the online program has made it possible for me to balance school, work, and motherhood, even during difficult moments when I felt overwhelmed. This journey has also helped me grow stronger mentally and emotionally, and I have gained more confidence in my ability to overcome challenges.

What I am most proud of is my ability to keep going, even when it has felt overwhelming. There have been times when life felt heavy, but I refused to give up because I know what is at stake for my future and my children’s future. Every assignment completed is not just academic progress, but a personal victory. I am proud of the strength I have found within myself, and I am deeply committed to continuing this journey until I achieve my degree.

How has receiving scholarship support shaped your experience at SNHU or influenced your future plans?

The scholarship I received has greatly enhanced my experience at Southern New Hampshire University. The financial burden of pursuing higher education has been lessened to the point that I have more time and energy to dedicate to my studies and academic performance. With this aid, I feel more settled in my decision to pursue higher education, and it has further motivated me to follow through with completing my degree.

Furthermore, the scholarship I was awarded has reaffirmed my faith in my abilities to continue my education and complete my career aspirations. I now have increased confidence in the fact that I am receiving the support needed for me to succeed in my efforts, which has encouraged me to keep working hard, even when I encounter obstacles. In essence, not only has the scholarship made college accessible, it has contributed to the development of my motivation and focus regarding my future.

Has a person, class, or experience at SNHU had a meaningful impact on you? Please share.

Yes, in many ways, my experience at Southern New Hampshire University has greatly been impacted by the courses I have taken and the professors I have had the privilege of learning from. The most positive aspect has probably been the faculty and staff. Because of the encouragement and assistance I've received, I've been able to develop more confidence in my academic potential.

They have been able to provide me with critical input that has really helped me improve as a writer, critical thinker, and student. Some of the courses I've taken have made a lasting difference in my life by pushing my limits and encouraging me to reflect on my aspirations and the field I want to pursue.

I feel I've grown significantly in my education and on a personal level because of the discipline and commitment it has taken to follow through on what I've needed to accomplish.
