“Thank you for giving me the opportunity for a great education; for providing me with peace of mind so I can focus on my education, for enabling me to make the most out of my time at SNHU and for truly helping me find my nitch.”
I choose SNHU for two main reasons. The first being it was the most affordable option, even compared to all of the state schools I applied to. The second reason was what I call the Can vs. Want factor. A lot of small schools offer a lot of the same opportunities, opportunities where you can get involved. At SNHU, that can turns into a want due to the friendly, supportive, and energetic atmosphere. As soon as I came onto campus, I wanted to start finding my nitch!
Scholarships are not a main reason why I can attend college, but the only reason. My dad is a self-employed carpenter, so attending an affordable school was one of my main priorities. Scholarships have allowed me to not focus on or worry about paying for school, but instead focus on earning the best education possible.
Wow, many names comes to mind, I don’t know how I can pick one or even a few! One of the main mentors I have had over the past three years is Dr. Jay Kosegarten. Dr. Kosegarten has been an amazing professor inside the classroom and and even more amazing mentor outside. I have assisted him on some of his personal research as well as he has helped me develop my own. He currently acts as my mentor for my Honors Thesis.
SNHU has provided me a wonderful education I did not have to empty my bank account for, as well the opportunity to explore all of my passions. I have formed amazing friendships and connections with faculty and staff who have taught me even greater lessons about life, kindness, and what it really means to give something or someone your best effort. SNHU has provided me with a great educational foundation for my graduate schooling, from in-class experience to out-of-class experience such as Undergraduate Research Day. In addition, through my involvement on campus, I have been able to increase my public speaking skills, my connection to the community, and my overall social awareness through service events like my Alternative Break trip to New Orleans.
I would like to think that over the past three years, especially now as an upper classman, I have made someone’s SNHU experience that much more personal, fun, and memorable. As a tour guide, I first help students by giving them a taste of SNHU’s culture so they can see if it is a good fit for them. Then on campus, I have contributed to many of the events and activities that take place, especially those for commuter students.
First let me say, that I would rather be busy than bored! I have been a tour guide for the Office of Admissions, a PAL (Peer Advising Leader) for the Office of Academic Advising, Commuter Assistant for the Office of Student Involvement, Presidential Ambassador, President of the University Honors Program, E-Board member for Outreach and C.A.P.E., Editor-in-Chief for the VPAA Journal, Editor for the Penmen Press, an Undergraduate Research Day participant, have had three internships, as well as been an Alternative Break participant! (I think that is it...) I do all of this while taking seven classes at a time!
As an alumna, I hope to be able to still give back to the SNHU community through events, sponsorships, or simply talking to current students.
To make the most out of your experience, you simply have to give the most. Be willing to explore the boundaries of your comfort zone, take chances, and smile to every one you pass! If you welcome the university with open arms, it will welcome you right back. (And I have found, you won’t want to let go at the end of four years!)
Course: Assessment and Testing with Dr. Hendery. Professor: Dr. Kosegarten and Dr. Hendery (I can’t choose!)
Last movie I have seen: Ferris Beuller’s Day Off (for probably the 14th time)... this is also my favorite movie! My favorite TV show is House. I have always loved the medical field!
I love to do yoga, paint, and spend time at the beach.
I enjoy doing homework in the new Library Learning Commons. It almost makes homework enjoyable, it is so nice!
