My first impression was that the staff truly cared about my goals. The first person I spoke with asked me real questions and took consideration in my concerns rather than just try to push me into a program I was not ready for.
My hope in receiving a college education is that I will be able to start a new career and broaden my experiences. My experience so far has been better than I imagined. Of course all students struggle now and then, however my struggles have not been as bad as I thought they would be. I was afraid to return to school and afraid to change careers but my experience with SNHU has shown me that I can do it.
Although I am an online student I feel the support of the SNHU community from afar. I can always count on someone to answer my questions in a down to earth and supporting manner. Although I am an online student I feel very much a part of the school.
One name comes to mind and that is Ann Reading. She was a professor I had for an English course. She gave an extra credit assignment that was not necessarily a part of the course but the assignment influenced me tremendously. The assignment was to write a letter to a holocaust survivor with whom she has had as a guest speaker in her class. The experience of listening to the speaker and given the opportunity to write to her was overwhelming. Through the experience I learned that you really never know what is happening is someone else’s life.
I find balancing my home life, work, and school to be the most challenging. I try to plan my weeks out according to my assignments so I have plenty of time to complete them and still maintain my personal life. I seem to do well with this but of course I often have days or weeks when things get crazy.
I am proudest of the fact that I made the commitment to return to school and that I have excelled in my courses while balancing my personal life.
Because I am an online student I do not have many memories in the same way that a campus student would but I would have to say my best memory was looking at the first grades at SNHU and knowing that I could continue.
My advice would be to embrace this time and focus on moving forward. College goes by very quickly and in reality is really only a short period in our lives. Take from it all it has to give.
I think I will stay involved in such a way that I keep up to date with the progression of the school and the programs that are available. Although I will be finished soon, only three more semesters to go, I am likely to want to continue taking courses to better myself.
My favorite course so far has been social media and health psychology. They both were very interesting, and fun courses that the instructors were down to earth professionals.
Last book: The Last Jew of Treblinka, last movie: 12 Years A Slave, any documentary or film based on true life, favorite TV show: Everybody Loves Raymond.
I go between my kitchen table, living room chair, or in bed.
