Alumni, Family and Friends
Kelsey is one of our top-notch volunteers and we can't praise her enough for all she has contributed as an alumna. Check out our Q&A below with her to learn more about why she has such a passion for volunteering with SNHU!
I think it is important to be involved in a community that helped me grow, thrive, and gave me opportunities when I was a student. I want to give back to the people who provided me with these amazing experiences and be a resource for the students.
I enjoy meeting future leaders, hearing their stories, offering my guidance and mentorship to them. I am a young professional in the workplace and was very heavily involved when I was a student on campus. I think involvement, transparency, and stepping out of your comfort zone are the most important aspects of college and volunteering. I remember when I volunteered and was selected for an alternative break, I was VERY nervous going to a foreign country and living at the poverty line — but by volunteering and giving back... you grow, meet new people, find a real appreciation for what you have, and expand your horizons to create unforgettable memories. If I can encourage others by sharing my story and “being the guiding light” to them, we all win! Inspiring and motivating the future is what I find most enjoyable about volunteering at SNHU.
I have seen A LOT of positivity out of my involvement with SNHU. I even ended up referring a few students for roles at my company! I have also connected with some on LinkedIn and offered mentorship advise. I think that each of these volunteer opportunities are unique and allow for you to not only build your personal brand, but also start to network and meet people with intriguing stories and references. I think that it is important for alumni to be represented as this creates a quick talking point and an “instant” commonality that can be discussed in intros!
Nothing too unexpected. I represent my company at many of the SNHU career events. I think that I made a lot more connections then I previously thought I would. I think it has been really rewarding that some students reach out after the fact saying things like: I inspired them, I have challenged them to think differently, etc. That little bit goes a long way on both ends!
Yes, I plan on it. I think it is important to recognize and remember where you came from and continue to be a resource for a place that you enjoyed and called “home” for four years. I also love seeing my past instructors, mentors, professors, advisors, etc.
I try to encourage others to become more involved when the opportunity arises. I am always sure to share what I have done in hopes to inspire other alumni to become involved or share their stories and time with students.
I have volunteered at the following events as an alumna:
I am heavily involved with the alumni events and try to stay connected attending the remote meetings, brewery meet up events, Homecoming, etc. All are amazing experiences that I highly recommend being a part of!
