Jillian finds great value in the relationships she has developed between her professional world and SNHU world since graduating in 2014. You will usually find her helping out at a career fair, resume critique night, or speaking one-on-one to the students in the classroom. Check out our Q&A below with Jillian to learn more about why she loves volunteering with SNHU!
I am inspired to volunteer at SNHU because of all the University has done for me. The education and real life experienced I gained has been so invaluable as I have moved throughout my professional career. The career services team is always such a pleasure to work with and developing those relationships over the last five years has been amazing.
I love meeting the students who are still discovering where they want to go in their career and being a part of that exploratory conversation is so fun for me. I remember being so confused and unsure of what I wanted to do post grad and being able to tell the students about my personal experience and being relatable to them is my favorite part about volunteering at SNHU.
I have met so many talented SNHUdents who have come to be a part of the organizations that I have worked at over the last five years. It’s so rewarding seeing their success once they start working in a professional setting and how grateful they are for the opportunity. I also have enjoyed helping students with their resumes and getting feedback on how well their new resume has been doing with their job search. Things like this motivate me to continue my advocacy for SNHU and all of their great programs.
A few unexpected situations have happened as a result of my volunteer activities — such as connecting with former classmates, being a reference for students, and meeting other organizations in the community at the semi-annual career fair events. All of this has been both exciting and fun for me!
Being able to be a part of the process in some way (whether it be at a career fair, resume critique night, or speaking one-on-one to the students in the classroom) adds value not only to the students, but for me as well. I have formed great relationships with staff members at SNHU and plan on continuing to do so in the years to come!
I have held a few different positions at a number of organizations over the last five years and have developed relationships through those organizations with SNHU each time. All the organizations see value in the work that SNHU does and that is something that I am very proud of. It truly makes me proud to be a SNHU alum!
