Alumni, Family and Friends
Hassan is definitely one of our top SNHUperstar volunteers! He exudes passion for the University, our students, and the community at every opportunity he gets. Check out our Q&A below with him to learn more about why he absolutely loves volunteering with SNHU!
Southern New Hampshire University provides multiple things that inspire me. They are equality, unity, innovation, diversity, and opportunities to become better leaders in the global society. SNHU has continued to grow on campus and online throughout the globe in recent years. Alumni from sports, entrepreneurship, engineering, research, education, politics, hospitality, musician and entertainment have all graduated from this amazing institution. SNHU has given me hope in life despite trials and tribulations from my past. This is especially being an son of an immigrant and coming from a single parent household. SNHU opened the door for me (as it has done for many others) to become the very first person in my family to proudly graduate with a master’s degree.
One example is being able to meet different students, staff/faculty, and alumni from all walks of life. Learning something new to improve as a person means so much to me in life. Secondly, learning my skills from the Boy Scouts of America days and eventually becoming an Eagle Scout has taught me to continue give back — not only to my alma mater, but to local communities on a regular basis as well. Lastly, I love volunteering my time since becoming an alumnus in 2017. It shows the future generations of SNHU students and alumni that anyone can volunteer. Whether it is a little bit or a whole lot of their time... at the end of the day having a great feeling that you made an impact on another life sure goes a long way.
I've seen the growth of volunteers from SNHU students and alumni since I started my graduate school course back in 2014. I have even seen the expansion of my fellow peers and SNHU alums being involved in everything from volunteering to attending events both domestically and internationally. Not only have I seen the SNHU community being engaged in all 50 states here in the US, I've also seen my classmates staying involved in countries such as Canada and Rwanda. I have also seen the impact of my efforts during SNHU's Global Days of Service (GDS). This yearly initiative has become a great tradition, outside of SNHU Homecoming, to spread happiness all while giving back to the communities.
Yes, I did actually. It was during the 2019 GDS event at the senior citizen center back in my hometown of Dallas, Texas. Folks seeing myself and other SNHU volunteers having the desire and heart to spend a few hours of our time giving back meant the world to them. Also, to my surprise, one of the volunteers from this project happen to attend the same high school as me as well as being another graduate of SNHU. During this project I also unexpectedly got to reconnect with one my other classmates from my SNHU program (Sports Management) and he just happened to know one of my other classmates from my second degree program (Organizational Leadership) at another institution. Such a small world! I found that using connection by volunteering speaks great volumes. SNHU provides amazing ways to make long lasting friendships by networking through volunteering.
Yes, I love this University! SNHU has given me more in this lifetime, more than I can ever give back to SNHU. I love the environment here — both online and on campus. Everyone has such a positive energy. Everyone is willing to help someone else out, whether they know the individual or they are a complete stranger. This is awesome. This is huge. SNHU is my second family. Penmen pride forever!
Most definitely I will. One of the ways is through social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. In addition, I email as many people as possible to inform them about upcoming SNHU events. Furthermore, I will even create my own flyers and distribute them much as possible. Anything to help spread the word and get others involved.
I have been involved with the following as an SNHU alumnus:
As you can see, I am heavily involved with the alumni events and try to stay connected in any way I can. All of the above are amazing experiences that I highly recommend being a part of!
