Alumni, Family and Friends
For Chris, SNHU has become a bit of a family tradition. Chris' father earned his MBA from SNHU through the Brunswick Center and his wife is currently pursuing her MBA online. Although they each had vastly different experiences (on-campus undergraduate, satellite continuing education, and online), they all feel they have benefited from being a part of the SNHU community. Read about Chris' volunteer experience, in his own words.
I sincerely believe that without SNHU, I would not be where I am today. SNHU created an environment in which I could thrive from the outstanding academic curriculum to the professors and staff that went out of their way to help you succeed and make you feel important. SNHU gave me so much, volunteering is my small way of giving back for all the opportunities that they have created for me.
I am passionate about helping students achieve their career goals. I have particularly enjoyed speaking to students, offering advice, and providing them with internship opportunities. We were all students once and we all needed someone to help us succeed in our chosen industry. I love that I can now serve as mentor to students as they pursue their goals. Additionally, I have really enjoyed the connections and friendships that I have made, not only with past interns but with various alumni in the southern Maine area.
It’s been very satisfying to see many students that I’ve worked with find success. I have also made some wonderful personal and professional connections through my volunteer work. These are people that I wouldn’t have necessarily overlapped or interacted with on campus, but after graduation we connect easily through our shared SNHU experience.
When I graduated in 1999, my diploma said New Hampshire College. As time has passed, the physical layout of campus has changed so dramatically as well as the name of the school, I thought my connection to my experience there would fade. But through my volunteer work I feel as connected as ever. That has been a wonderful surprise and benefit. It’s wonderful to still feel like I’m so involved with the life of the school. I am thankful to the staff at SNHU for continuing to reach out to me and keeping me involved.
Absolutely! The work we’ve started with local alumni in Maine is just in the beginning stages. I look forward to seeing what’s next in my area and to welcoming our newest alumni into the local community
Yes! My wife works in alumni relations at another school and I see firsthand the amount of work that the staff puts in and how much they rely on volunteers to help make events and the school a continued success. Every little bit helps.
Additionally, I would encourage my classmates to attend Homecoming Weekend sometime. I’ve had the opportunity to return to campus almost every year for the past few years. I know a number of classmates who haven’t been back since graduation and I’d love for them to see how the school has grown – I think they would be proud to see what the school has accomplished.
