Meet Bob – an SNHU volunteer who finds it extremely important to help make a difference in our students' lives, especially when it comes to their career success. He's very committed to assisting our learners in refining their professional skills as well as connecting them to the right career resources and advancement opportunities. Check out our Q&A below to learn even more about Bob and his passion for preparing our students to enter the workforce.
As an organizational leader, a top priority is the growth and development of employees to ensure organizational success. I believe the future success of organizations is dependent upon the proper growth and development of our college students. This is why my inspiration is driven by the need to ensure all SNHU students are prepared to properly promote themselves through a solid resume and interview skills, while understanding the true importance and value of networking opportunities.
My volunteer efforts have resulted in meeting some exceptional SNHU students and helping to connect them to resources to assist them in achieving career success. Additionally, becoming exposed to these students has allowed our company to hire interns and permanent employees — with some achieving career growth and advancement opportunities in a very short period of time.
Through SNHU career and professional development events (such as Mock Interviews and Resume Critiques), I've been able to connect with students through LinkedIn and share connections as applicable. Providing resources to students to help them prepare for their future has been extremely rewarding. These connections have also led to our company hiring multiple interns, which has led to some of them becoming permanent employees with great career growth and promotion opportunities.
In a very recent example, a student who participated in a 2021 Mock Interview event reached out to our company's President just as we were preparing to advertise for an IT position. The student interviewed, was hired as an intern while completing their final year at SNHU, and will become a permanent full-time employee upon graduation. This is resulting in the student being able to apply course learning concepts to a real-world business environment, which will help the student tremendously in their senior year.
I'm happy to continue my volunteer efforts with SNHU as this is such a valuable and rewarding experience for me both personally and professionally, but more importantly it's a great learning and development experience for students. Being able to make a difference in students’ lives is extremely important to me and I'll continue to volunteer indefinitely.
I enjoy speaking with other SNHU alumni volunteers and continue to encourage others in our company to become involved in one manner or another. Partnering with the SNHU this year for the Global Business Challenge will open up a great opportunity for other staff members to expand their exposure to SNHU students/staff and expand their volunteer opportunities as well.
I truly appreciate the opportunity to volunteer at SNHU and highly recommend this experience to other alumni professionals. I'm looking forward to all the future SNHU volunteer opportunities that await me!
