Meet Kira – an SNHU volunteer with a passion for connecting with students by helping them navigate the start of their career path. This alumna knows the true value of practicing for real world experiences, such as job interviews, and loves that teaching/learning is a two-way street in these events. Check out our Q&A below to learn even more about Kira and her enthusiasm for preparing our students for what's ahead.
In the past, I've volunteered to be part of the SNHU Mock Interviews that were held on the Manchester, NH campus to help undergraduate students practice their interpersonal skills and learn how to put their best foot forward when seeking a career related job. As a digital marketing and communication professional, I feel honored to engage in helping up-and-coming job seekers because I was helped by similar practice sessions when I was in school. I found this type of preparation invaluable for building up my confidence as well as networking with potential employers.
I enjoy meeting new people – specifically the current students, alumni, and fellow professionals from local industry in this context of volunteering on campus.
One of the biggest results I've seen was when I brought on one of the students I met during one of the SNHU Mock Interview events. This student became the first six-month co-operative learning team member with our marketing department at Enterprise Bank and I wouldn't have made this connection with him were it not for me volunteering and networking in this way. This former co-op and SNHU graduate became an outstanding member and contributor to our marketing efforts when he was with us and I'm grateful for that connection. In this regard, I always invite students to stay in touch or reach out after we meet ... particularly if I can offer them further career related guidance or knowledge that might help them along their professional path in securing the jobs they're seeking as it relates to our field of work. You never know what may come of meeting someone who is headed down the path you've already travelled or wish to pursue, which is why it's great that SNHU offers these opportunities.
Yes, the realization that there is always something new to learn as industry needs are evolving. When participating in Mock Interviews, I love the feeling of learning that I get from these interactions and always walk away feeling impressed with seeing what innovative skills and programs SNHU has to offer. I think it's great that the programs are continually being updated, especially with mindfulness of bridging the gap between education and learning useful skills that apply to this field of work in real life post-graduation.
Yes, meeting people who have the common thread of being affiliated with SNHU makes me feel like I'm a part of a growing network and community.
Yes, I already do so! Specifically, other colleagues where I work since it has always been a positive experience for me to visit and volunteer with SNHU.
