Alumni, Family and Friends
John is truly dedicated to paying it forward ... especially when it comes to his alma mater. This alumnus has provided outstanding help to SNHU community — putting in more than 55 hours of volunteer work since graduating in 2015!
When I was a student at SNHU, I was lucky enough to have the support of countless individuals, including alumni. Staying involved as an alumni volunteer is one of the many ways I say “thanks” and pay it forward.
There are so many things I enjoy about my volunteer experiences, but if I had to pick my top two, it would be hearing about the incredible accomplishments of the current SNHU students, and staying in touch with other alumni and friends from college!
My volunteer experience has been primarily through events and the Global Days of Service program, which I think is one of the most meaningful alumni programs that SNHU offers. The impact of the program is far reaching — supporting both SNHU community members (current students, alumni, and friends!) but also community needs and individuals.
Absolutely! I really look forward to all the connections I make, but I also know that it’s how I can give back to the University that gave me so much. No matter your interest or skillset, there’s always a need or way to give back without opening up the checkbook (do people even still have those?) and that’s what I think makes SNHU so special.
My line of work doesn’t particularly lend itself to a ton of interest for internships, informational interviews, etc. I’m not great at reviewing resumes or conduction mock interviews, and I’m not at a point in my life where I can give back financially to SNHU (hopefully soon!) ... so I was a little discouraged at first on how I could go about getting involved and giving back. The SNHU Office of Alumni Engagement quickly found ways for me to use my skills and other interests. I was psyched to learn I could help support work with Global Days of Service, be a part of focus groups for advancement related projects, as well as many other ways to help out by sharing my time and knowledge. Simply put, there’s a volunteer opportunity for everyone, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re not seeing something that seems like the right fit right away. Everyone on the Alumni team is absoultely great to work with — you won't regret it!
