Alumni, Family and Friends
Meet Michael – one of our very dedicated members on the SNHU Alumni Board of Directors. He is passionate about volunteering his time to better our community and provide career guidance to our students. Michael truly values helping others and knows the importance of setting a good example for his son and all those around him. Check out our Q&A below to learn even more about why he gives back.
Paying it forward. Many of my favorite memories while attending SNHU came from the various clubs and organizations I joined on campus. A myriad of service opportunities presented themselves on and off campus which has instilled in me a desire to volunteer. Southern New Hampshire University fostered an environment where I was able to develop my interests, and later use them to help strengthen the broader community.
The answer is twofold: First, a large amount of my volunteer time with SNHU is spent working on the Alumni Board of Directors. While being on the board I’ve met some truly amazing people who inspire me to continue to give back. I really enjoy connecting with alumni and find it very rewarding. Second, being able to share my experiences with, and provide guidance to, the students of SNHU could not be more meaningful to me.
Over the years I’ve seen results in many forms. It could be witnessing the gratitude of an Alumni Award recipient after working on the selection committee, or receiving a thank you note from a mock interview participant. Even if results aren’t immediately apparent there is always a sense of pride that comes from sharing my time with others in pursuit of a greater good.
It was certainly unexpected to be selected as a Volunteer Spotlight Honoree. Thank you for the recognition!
I most certainly will. I'll continue to serve for years to come, not only for the reasons I’ve already articulated but most importantly as an example to my son. Whether we realize it or not, every interaction we have with another leaves an impression. It is my hope that over time I’m able to impress upon my son the importance of honoring where you come from by paying it forward.
Without a doubt. Whenever I’m speaking to alumni I encourage them to stay connected to the university, and to give their time and talent when opportunities for service present themselves. Simply raising your hand and showing up will have a positive cascading effect on any project.
Thank you again for this opportunity to be spotlighted. I look forward to connecting with even more alumni in the years to come!
