The number of individuals experiencing food insecurity is on the rise worldwide. According to The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2020 report, the numbers have slowly been rising since 2014. The full extent of the impact from the COVID-19 pandemic remains largely unknown at this point; however, Feeding America reports that an estimated 40% of people visiting a food bank in the U.S. now need assistance as a result of COVID-19.
In February, Penmen learned about hunger and its root causes, and explored what hunger looks like in our local communities.
