Meet Paul – one of our dedicated Alumni Board of Director members. This alumnus loves giving back with his alma mater and building connections with the community. Whether it's in-person or virtual, he is always ready to raise his hand to help. Check out our Q&A below to learn even more about Paul and his drive for volunteering with SNHU.
As an undergrad on campus, I took advantage of every opportunity to immerse myself in the fabric of the SNHU community. The relationships I made and experiences I had allowed me to develop my skills and capabilities as a leader and helped shape the person I am today. I'm forever grateful for the time I spent at SNHU and feel a great sense of pride and personal responsibility to help give back to the university that gave me so much.
I love being back on campus and feeling the energy and excitement of the students, faculty and staff, and other alumni volunteers. It's as though I never left! SNHU has so many options that fit into my busy schedule. I’ve been able to help out in-person during Homecoming this past fall as well as participate in Virtual Mock Interviews from the comfort of my home this winter. I also really love continuing to meet new people and grow my SNHU network beyond just the campus. I'm also a member of the Alumni Board of Directors and have found it very exciting connecting with other alumni from across the country during our meetings.
The most immediate results I saw from my efforts was during the student mock interviews. I was able to spend time with two students, getting to know them, learning about their backgrounds and career aspirations. I was able to provide immediate feedback during our “interview” and help them prepare for their actual interviews as they begin their journey into full time employment. The genuine interest in improving their skills and gratitude for the time I spent with them was incredible. I’m already looking forward to the next session.
The two things that stuck out to me while volunteering is how much I missed SNHU being a part of my everyday life, and how much I truly enjoyed being back on campus. The second is the quick relationships I’ve started to built with other alumni from different classes. It has been great expanding my network of fellow, like minded alumni!
Absolutely! Not only has it been such a rewarding experience so far, but it’s been fun! Reconnecting with past faculty and staff and meeting many new faces has been great. Already looking forward to the next volunteer activity.
Yes. I've already reached out to my fellow alumni and friends that I graduated with and shared my experiences with them. I also let everyone know about the many opportunities there are to volunteer. There really is something for everyone and SNHU makes it easy to give back either in person or virtually — there is no reason not to!
